Kylie Minogue Tops U.K. Album Chart
Twenty-two years after her first U.K. No. 1 album, Kylie Minogue scored her fifth with “Aphrodite” (Parlophone/EMI), while pop band JLS debuted atop the singles chart with “The Club Is Alive” (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment).
The Australian pop icon’s first chart-topping album in the U.K. came this very week in 1988 with “Kylie – The Album.” The follow-up “Enjoy Yourself” repeated the feat the following year, and Minogue also hit the top with a 1992 “Greatest Hits” set and 2001’s “Fever.” The first single from the new album, “All The Lovers,” fell 3-9 on the Official Charts Company’s new data.

Pop princess Kylie Minogue has been denied the top spot on the Australian albums chart.
The singer’s new offering Aphrodite has debuted at number two on the ARIA music charts, released on Sunday, behind American rapper Eminem.
It’s the third week music’s bad boy has keep an Aussie act from the number one position with his album Recovery – Adelaide pop sensation Sia and Byron Bay metalcore rockers Parkway Drive also had to settle for number two in the past couple of weeks.
But for Minogue grabbing the top spot would have meant a triumphant return home for the 42-year-old, who is due in Australia any day now for a promotional tour for Aphrodite, her 11th studio album and the first in three years.
It will also be Minogue’s chance to catch up with her sister Dannii’s new baby boy Ethan, who was born on July 5, the same day his aunt launched her album in the dance capital of the world, Ibiza.
The first single from the 12-track album, All The Lovers, released on June 13, has jumped back up the Aussie singles chart this week to number 18 from 30, but has only managed to peak at number 14 in its four weeks on the chart.
Minogue’s promotional tour for her album will include a television appearance on Hey Hey It’s Saturday on Wednesday, July 21.
