KYLIE Minogue has secretly become engaged to her Spanish model boyfriend Andres Velencoso a British magazine has claimed. Rumours of an expected marriage proposal have been swirling about Britain for weeks but yesterday celebrity magazine Grazia claimed the Spaniard had already popped the question after a romantic trip to New York earlier this month, and the Aussie pop princess could not stop “shrieking for joy”.
A source told the magazine 31-year-old Velencoso said: “he wanted to wake up next to her every day for the rest of his life”.
“She asked him if he knew what he was saying and if he was serious, and when he said ‘yes’ and that he wanted to marry her, she was thrilled,” the source said.
A spokesman for the pop princess yesterday denied the reports and played down any speculation of an imminent announcement.
“Definitely not true,” her London-based spokesman told your newspaper when asked if she was already engaged, adding he was aware of today’s reports.
Despite the denial, British newspapers and magazines have excitedly predicted Minogue will confirm the engagement to close family and friends this Thursday (tomorrow), her 41st birthday. A public announcement is expected sometime after that.
In a series of provocative fashion photographs of Minogue released last week, the singer is wearing a $16,000 diamond heart ring by Spanish jeweller TOUS on the fourth finger of her right hand as is the tradition in continental Europe.
She has been wearing the ring ever since and in Cannes in the south France last week remarked on how happy her personal life was at the moment and added “you never know he could be the one”.
“Everyone is convinced Kylie has found her soul mate in Andres – she is quite clearly head over heels in love,” a source close to the singer told the British press yesterday.
“He equally seems to adore her. His nickname for her is Minnie and he even drew a picture of Minnie Mouse for her the other day which she has put in a frame. We’ve never seen her so happy.”
In recent weeks, Minogue has been taking Spanish language lessons and with Velencoso, has been about the beach-side village of Tossa Del Mar north of Barcelona shopping for property. The village, about an hour and a half from the Catalan capital, is where Andre was born and his family still live and own and operate a restaurant.
The couple have been inseparable since they met last October at a party in Paris.
