Kylie Minogue’s already been crowned the princess of pop, and now she has collected a prestigious royal honour from Prince Charles.
Minogue was at Buckingham Palace tonight receiving her OBE (Order of the British Empire), capping off a remarkable two decades of success in the music industry for the 40-year-old singer.
The former Neighbours star was honoured for her services to the music industry during an investiture ceremony for about 100 people, including police officers, defence personnel and teachers, inside the palace’s grand ballroom.
Wearing a white satin long-sleeved dress with colourful sequinned stars and gold stilettos, the diminutive singer curtseyed before Prince Charles presented her OBE.
After a quick chat with the prince, she curtseyed again and walked away, beaming at proud parents Carol and Ron and sister Dannii, who were sitting in the audience.
Taking her own seat in the ballroom to watch other honours being awarded, Minogue thrilled a young boy by talking to him while five other little girls looked on enviously, hoping for a smile from the celebrity.
Minogue’s presence even created excitement among palace staff, with one of the Queen’s bodyguards exclaiming before the ceremony: “That’s a sight for sore eyes,” when a colleague told him the singer was inside.
