Down time: Kylie Minogue

With a seven-night run at the O2, SE10, from July 26, Kylie remains a star attraction, 21 years after Charlene from Neighbours became a chart-topping pop singer with I Should Be So Lucky.
Overcoming illness, heartbreak, sales dips and a nasal singing voice, Kylie has, through hard work, good song choices and an arch, camp and game mien, battled through. Chart pop is better for her contribution.
1 Better the Devil You Know The best by far of her SAW hits: brilliant tune, hi-NRG heaven and a truly tragic lyric.
2 Can’t Get You out of My Head Her biggest international hit, a colossal song assembled around the barest of bones.
3 Slow Genuinely odd, undeniably fab; like Prince meets Grace Jones on helium, from 2003.
4 Especially for You Cheesy as hell, but one of pop’s great duets, with Jason Donovan, in 1988.
5 Where the Wild Roses Grow Cosying up to a slightly more complicated customer — hello, Nick Cave — in 1996.
6 No More Rain The X album’s one real gem.
7 Hand on Your Heart A karaoke classic.
8 Confide in Me A creative swerve left in 1994, as she sought a more experimental niche.
9 I Should Be So Lucky Ubiquitous in 1987; and still, frankly, scarily unavoidable.
10 Too Far Her weirdest song (soft-porn jungle rap, anyone?). Not too far, but it’s close.
