I’ll have a go at Kylie’s song.. but not her hotpants, says Michelle McManus. SINGER Michelle McManus may be performing a Kylie song at Blackpool Pride this weekend . . . but she won’t be wearing hotpants.
Larger than life Michelle, who is always happy to laugh at herself, says even gay men wouldn’t want to see her in a replica of the pop pixie’s famous gold shorts.
Pop Idol Michelle said: “I’m singing at Blackpool Pride this weekend and the organisers pick a singer every year to duet with compere Steve Paulden.
“We are doing a duet of Better The Devil You Know and I’ve only had a couple of days to learn it.
“We’re doing it on Saturday and I’m quite nervous. But not even a gay man could stand to see me in gold lame hotpants, so I won’t be wearing them.
“The only gold I’ll be wearing will be the gold wedges on my feet.”
Baillieston-born Michelle, who has constantly been in the headlines about her weight loss, is about to feature in a documentary with EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy, who also managed to shed pounds of body fat.
Michelle said: “Natalie has lost lots of weight and looks unbelievable.
“We’ll be looking at the industry and why we’re all obsessed with our weight.”
The singer, who recently went to Lourdes to help sick children’s charity HCPT, is also looking forward to taking part in this year’s Moonwalk, where thousands of women walk a marathon wearing their bras in aid of breast cancer.
And she admitted: “I hope I don’t do a Jade Goody and need an ambulance at the end of the 13th mile.”
Michelle celebrated her 28th birthday last week at exclusive club 29 in Glasgow, and admits she was a bit worse for wear after downing bottles of Moet champagne on the new roof terrace.
She said: “My pals and I must have drunk our own body weight in champagne because by 12.30am we were absolutely blitzed.
“We had a great time and it was like being abroad.”
Michelle is now looking forward to the release of her new single, Different Beat, in June, followed by a 25-date club tour.
