SMH Australia: April 17, 2008

AFTER years of publicly pining for marriage and children, Kylie Minogue now appears to have cooled her desire for a family. The pop princess, who turns 40 next month, has revealed she’s accepted that she may never find a husband or have children.

She said that while she sometimes dreams of starting a family, it might not be “the right path” for her.

“I never had the feeling of a conventional marriage with a terraced house in the suburbs,” she told the May issue of German Vogue.

“Media interest in supermothers is understandable. But for many that is too much of a good thing.

“There are also artists such as Debbie Harry or Dolly Parton who’ve managed to have an unbelievable career without a family.

“Dolly recently said ‘I don’t need children. I have brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews’.

“Above everything else it comes down to how much love you have in you and if you’re ready to give it.

“How things will turn out for me with regards to family, I simply can’t yet say.”

Minogue also again denied that she had rekindled her romance with French actor Oliver Martinez, but said they remained friends.

And she said she was not worried about turning 40 in a few weeks.

“For me it’s no big deal. I’ve not planned anything spectacular. I will celebrate with a small circle of friends and the next day will appear at my next concert.”
