Kylie speaks about cancer misdiagnosis

April 08, 2008
Australian singer Kylie Minogue told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres this week that doctors initially misdiagnosed her breast cancer. “Listen, this is an opportunity for me to say something that I have not said before,” Minogue said. “I was misdiagnosed initially. So, my message to all of you and everyone at home is: Because someone is in a white coat and using medical instruments, [it] doesn’t necessarily mean they are right.”
Earlier in the show, U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton discussed with DeGeneres the importance of early detection of breast cancer, which Minogue said inspired her to say something.
Minogue did not give the date of the misdiagnosis, or say how long she waited before she received a second opinion.
“If you have any doubt, go back again,” Minogue told the audience.
