Who’d have thought that little old Charlene would, in two short, sweet decades, go from the original soapstar superstar to a well-loved British treasure whose album releases are up there with the goings on in Parliament in terms of national interest? It’s probably something that intrigues Kylie herself, given the fact she’s still a proud Australian, but over here, we tend to get a bit more involved with celebrities than our Antipodean cousins, and so much has happened to Kylie since 2003’s Body Language that she’s barely ever been out of the spotlight. ‘Kylie still gives me hand-me-downs’

handdowns

ContactMusic: 23rd November 2007

DANNII MINOGUE hated wearing big sister KYLIE’s old clothes as a child - but now begs for her sibling’s discarded garments. The 36-year-old was forced to wear her sister’s hand-me-downs as a youngster after the Spinning Around hitmaker grew out of them. And the judge on Britain’s hit TV show The X-Factor admits her singer sibling continues to giver her worn items from her designer wardrobe. She says, “As kids I used to get hand-me-downs. She’s still pretty good with that these days. “(Now) she’ll find something she knows I’ll like or I’ll get something for her. If we’ve been into the same store without knowing, the assistant will say, ‘You both picked up exactly the same thing.’ The shops that we both go to will say if she has just bought something.”

Kylie Minogue put on a pedestal

sculpture

Herald Sun Australia: November 23, 2007 12:00am

POP star Kylie Minogue has been immortalised in a new statue to be unveiled at Docklands today. The life-size likeness, complete with lace body stocking and red high heels, will stand alongside fellow Aussie entertainment greats Graham Kennedy and John Farnham in a Hollywood-style Walk of Fame. The unveiling at Waterfront City comes on the eve of the release of her new album, X, tomorrow.

The showgirl figure is the work of Melbourne sculptor Peter Corlett, who also created the Weary Dunlop statue on St Kilda Rd, Phar Lap at Flemington and the Ted Whitten figure in Footscray.

The statue took three months to produce.

Corlett liaised with Kylie’s management and dressmakers in London to get her body measurements, right down to the size of her wrist.

“Then I actually found a young woman working in a cafe in Brunswick St who had virtually the same measurements,” he said.

The waitress was then able to replicate the pose to help Mr Corlett produce the final version.

‘Stuff’ New Zealand: 21 November 2007

Twenty years after fans fell in love with them as Scott and Charlene on Neighbours, Jason Donovan can’t escape associations with Kylie Minogue – even in the most unlikely places.

The singer and actor, who now calls the UK home, is in Australia to promote his role as the voice of the cheeky gameshow host in the PlayStation 2 quiz game Buzz.

Donovan, who was also involved in the creation of the popular game, says one of the characters in it is based on Minogue.

“I have to say one of the characters is probably based on her,” he told AAP. Continue reading
