All about Kylie Minogue

plastic

The Sunday Telegraph (Australia), November 25, 2007

KYLIE Minogue has voices in her head. They’re evident mainly at decision time, and they render the pop superstar speechless. “I’m terrible at making up my mind,” Minogue confesses. “I’m getting better. I tend to get quiet because there’s a committee meeting in my head - all the voices.

“It’s sometimes hard for me to find the voice in my head that’s right. So I end up staying quiet.”
But Minogue refuses to suffer in silence any longer.

She beat breast cancer two years ago and is working through a to-do list for better living.

A new song, Cosmic, spells out that mission. “I wanted the right to misbehave … the things I’d put aside for years,” it says.

Minogue also vows, in the song, to speak her mind and not be interrupted.

“My work involves a lot of people but, ultimately, I’m the one who has to get out there and do it.

“So I take it all on board. There’s a lot of noise. But now, more often, I need to call things to a halt.”
Minogue wrote Cosmic in Melbourne after having chemotherapy.

“I’m always writing to-do lists,” she says.

“I don’t remember writing a physical list during my illness, but there was a mental list. It would have gone in the daydreaming category.”

Consequently, Minogue’s new album, the celebratory X, is powered by the optimism of her hopes and desires.

Triumph over life-threatening illness has caused her to reflect and reveal.

Minogue wrote two songs about her illness: Cosmic, and No More Rain, which is about overcoming dread.

“I didn’t want those songs to be dark, because during my illness the darkness was there,” she says.

“I was living in it. My focus was to find a road out of there.”

What were her biggest fears during her cancer battle?

“That’s such an enormous question, I can’t answer it easily.

“I was fearing almost everything.

“There were terrifying moments. I simply can’t say what they were. They’re far too personal.”
But she now lives for every moment.

“The sun coming up on another day,” she sings on No More Rain. “Got a second-hand chance, gonna do it again.”

Certainly, Minogue Inc is back in business, but with a few catches.

“I’m having more joy in what I do,” she says. “But people need to understand that I’m not a machine.”

She recalls, while ill, having to do acommercial for a car companythat sponsored her tour.

“I wasn’t feeling well,” she says.”I had the flu. But it had to be onthis particular day because there wasonly one of these cars in theworld.

“I remember thinking:`Well, there’s only one of me in the world, yet I was the one who turned up - to fit in with the car.

“That attitude - of other people - has now changed.

“It’s a shame it took all this to realise these things, and for me to stand up for myself.

The warts-and-all tour docu-mentary White Diamond is further evidence Minogue has learned to let go.

“I know seeing myself on screenlooking less than lovely mostof the time was very liberating,’’she says. “That’s life. We’re all real, and we all have to deal with

Single again after splitting from Olivier Martinez, Minogue says she is always open to love.

“What I know, and what I believe, about relationships is this: relationships have their time,” she says.

“I know there’s a tendency for the media to use the catchphrase ‘unlucky in love’. They all love that one. But I don’t agree with that.” My life is full because of love.”

Minogue’s former flamesinclude rock star MichaelHutchence, model James Gooding, photographer Stephane Sednaoui and actor Jason Donovan.

“Mostly, I’ve been in relationships. I’m a serial mono-gamist,” she says, laughing. “I haven’t spent too much time single, so relationships have had a place in my life.

“So, what can I say? They’ve made me who I am today. And, hopefully, there’s love in the future for me.”

Asked what she wants from a future lover, Minogue says: “A partnership.”

She says Martinez was honourable and loyal during their relationship, of which there are hints in the sensual new tunes Nudity and In My Arms.

“I was pretty much on my own when I wrote this record,” she says.

“But I felt so much love, in many different ways - from my ex, Olivier, from my fans, family and friends.”

Asked what the lust in some of her new songs relates to, she says: “Oh, that’s easy: a lust for life.”
